Food & other Organic Wastes

Food Waste Recycling

As part of our ongoing services, GAP Organics are able to provide a collection and processing service for your food waste via Anaerobic Digestion facilities where energy trapped within the food waste is liberated to produce green energy.

If your business or commercial organisation produces food or you generate food waste in any form, we can help save you money, decrease your landfill charges and reduce your carbon footprint. Simply by recycling a single tonne of food waste, we can help avoid emissions of up to 1 tonne of carbon dioxide equivalent.

GAP Organics operates their premier food waste collection service from the Scottish borders to North Yorkshire.  Our services help customers recycle their food waste in the most cost effective, convenient and compliant manner.

Food waste collected by GAP Organics will be processed by local renewable energy facilities, diverting waste from landfill, creating renewable biomethane, and fertiliser for local farming activities.

GAP Organics are now delivering GAP Group’s trusted approach to the collection and processing of food waste. With rapid expansion in the heart of the North East, GAP pride themselves on offering you the customer, a service which is unbeatable in terms of customer care and efficiency.

Our team of experts work tirelessly to meet your individual needs to ensure we get the job done right, first time.  GAP Organics,  working with localised food waste (Anaerobic Digestion) facilities throughout the country, enables GAP to provide and deliver a bespoke solution to help you achieve a net zero outcome.

The food waste delivered to the AD plants on arrival is mechanically separated from any packaging it may arrive in; that packaging is then sent to our partners Waste to Energy sites.

This makes food waste AD plants, the perfect example of zero waste businesses and puts GAP Organics at the forefront of the Circular Economy.

Having been separated from any packaging,  all of the organic material  is pumped and blended with other organic waste including wash waters from other local food producers, which would otherwise go to sewer.

This blended material is then fed to the plants Digesters, where microorganisms break down the biodegradable material and convert it to Methane and Carbon Dioxide (Biogas). It is a similar process to that which takes place in the stomach of a cow.

Biogas is either used directly as fuel in Combined Heat and Power (CHP) engines  to produce renewable heat and electricity or upgraded to the National Grid Standard, as a renewable Gas. Both energy streams are exported to the National Grid, for use by domestic and industrial customers.

The remaining liquid known as Digestate, is a nutrient rich fertiliser and at plants GAP Organics supply, meets the PAS110 quality standard, meaning it is no longer considered as a waste, but a high-quality Bio-fertiliser.

Paper Planning Approach

GAP adopts a blank piece of paper planning approach to diligent companies looking for a reliable, modern and trustworthy provider of transport, waste or compliance services. Our aim is to save you money and improve your carbon footprint whilst bettering your previous experiences within our sector.
