Clothes Recycling Crying for Investment

Posted by Andy Clark on 7th February 2019

Its been prominent in the media in recent months that "fast fashion" is killing off ethical brands and the ability of those in the fashion industry from running a commercially viable business. This is due to the small prices that consumers wish to pay for their goods these days which are commercially unachievable. As a result, manufacturing gets done overseas and quite often in unethical conditions.

MPs have recently called for investment to be made into clothes recycling. This would see a sum of near £35million be made available for clothing collection points, repair services and reuse centres making garments and fabrics available for reuse. As a population, we are guilty of buying excessive amounts of clothing and wearing only a small proportion. With over 300,000 tonnes of clothing put in household bins every year, 20% is said to end up in landfill.
