Exciting Times Ahead for GAP Group

Posted by Andy Clark on 5th December 2018

We have just commissioned a state-of-the-art fridge processing plant which comprises of the latest technology and will be the newest and most innovative of its kind in Europe- capable of processing over 600,000 domestic fridges per year.

Added to this we are also installing a new plastic treatment plant which will treat the troublesome rigid plastic which are difficult to recycle. The plant will separate shred, granulate, extrude the plastic in order to produce a high-quality plastic pellet which is then sold back into manufactures of new products. This will take place at our site in Felling, Gateshead.

And finally, there is a new Anaerobic Digestion development which is currently being installed in Wardley. The plant will treat food waste which has been collected throughout the region which will then be treated to produce gas which is scrubbed and cleaned and then injected into the local gas network for consumer consumption. Currently there is 15 million tonne of food waste thrown away every year.

Peter Moody, Groups MD stated “As a local & family run business, we are delighted to bring these projects to fruition. The creation of new jobs in such uncertain times is particularly very rewarding. Add the environmental and carbon savings these projects will have and makes a very good reading”.

The group are in discussion to fuel their fleet of vehicles with the energy generated from the AD plant.
