We are proud to announce the official opening of GAP Alba, our new state-of-the-art fridge reprocessing facility located at the Binn Eco-Park near Perth. The launch event, held on Wednesday 28 May 2025, was marked by the attendance of Scotland's First Minister, John Swinney, recognising the national significance of this groundbreaking development.
As part of GAP Group, GAP Alba represents a major step forward in delivering world-leading, environmentally responsible solutions for end-of-life refrigeration appliances. The facility has been designed to operate with a 100% Net Zero carbon footprint, powered entirely by renewable energy generated on-site at the Eco-Park. This landmark achievement aligns with Scotland’s ambitious environmental targets and demonstrates our commitment to sustainable innovation.
The £15 million investment will allow GAP Alba to manage all aspects of fridge reprocessing with advanced technology and industry-leading environmental safeguards. In partnership with the Binn Group, one of Scotland’s largest independent providers of integrated recycling and waste management services, the facility will also manage the safe disposal of byproducts such as fridge gases and PUR (polyurethane), which will be processed into energy-from-waste feedstock.
Group Chief Executive Peter Moody commented,
“This is a hugely significant milestone for GAP Alba and all our partners as we look to provide the most environmentally sound and technologically advanced solution to fridge reprocessing in Scotland and the UK. I’m honoured that our environmentally focused growth plans have aligned with Scotland’s commitment to net zero. The First Minister’s presence underscores the importance of what we’re building here.”
In his remarks at the event, First Minister John Swinney spoke to the importance of delivering tangible community and environmental benefits, stating:
“If we are to persuade people to back climate action wholeheartedly, we must speak not only of the costs and challenges but also demonstrate clear and direct household and community benefits. Tangible benefits at home, in terms of more jobs, lower energy bills, and new economic opportunities, delivering tangible benefits for the planet.”
We are proud of the hard work and collaboration that has gone into making GAP Alba a reality. As we continue to expand our environmentally focused operations, this facility stands as a powerful symbol of what’s possible when innovation, sustainability, and national ambition come together.
