Why recycling vapes is important
Some facts and figures suggest that e-cigarettes or vapes are growing in popularity due to a combination of potential health benefits over traditional nicotine products and fashion trends! However, if people use disposable vapes as opposed to rechargeable products there are some significant environmental impacts!
Vape waste is on the rise ...
- 4.3 million people in Britain use vapes (up around 800,000 from 10 years ago).
- 14 million single-use vapes are bought each month.
- 1.3 million vapes are thrown away every week.
- 67.6 million vapes are thrown out every year... This adds up to 10 tonnes of lithium and enough to make batteries for 1,200 electric vehicles!
Dangers of disposable and rechargable vapes
Also, there have been several fires caused by disposable and rechargeable vapes in the UK. All vapes use a battery to heat the nicotine liquid and when the batteries are not disposed of correctly this can cause a fire!
Don’t throw vapes (or any battery or electrical items) into general waste bins or household recycling bins as you might cause a fire and the valuable resources might be lost forever!
