The Challenges

The Risks of Improper Vape Storage

Vapes are one of the fastest-growing fire risks in the waste stream.
Without a compliant vape bin, you risk:

Lithium battery fires
Regulatory non-compliance
Insurance complications
Contaminated general waste
Failed environmental audits

A purpose-designed vape bin significantly reduces these risks.

What Is a Vape Bin?

A vape bin is a designated container for the safe segregation of used disposable and rechargeable vapes.

Vapes contain:

Lithium batteries
Electronic components
Plastic and metal materials

Incorrect storage increases fire and compliance risk. A compliant vape bin ensures safe handling from the moment it’s disposed of.

How It Works

Bin Delivery

e deliver the right vape collection containers to your sites - countertop, floor-standing, or undercounter - matched to your volume and operational setup. Containers remain GAP's property and stay on-site for ongoing use between collections.

On-Site Safe Storage

Customers, students, staff, or visitors place used vapes into the clearly-marked, fire-resistant containers. Vapes are segregated from general waste at the point of generation, eliminating fire risk and keeping you compliant.

Scheduled Collection

Once your containers are ready for emptying, we collect nationwide using our own haulage fleet or partnrs under ADR-compliant transport protocols for lithium batteries. Collections are scheduled around your volumes - whether that's weekly, monthly, or on-demand.

Battery Extraction & Depollution

At our licensed treatment facility, used vapes are safely processed. Lithium-ion batteries are extracted and handled as hazardous waste. Remaining materials - plastics, metals, and electronics - are separated for downstream recycling.

Documentation & Reporting

Every collection is fully documented. You receive duty of care paperwork, WEEE Category 15 transfer notes, weight data, and ESG-ready reports — everything you need for compliance checks, producer reporting, and sustainability disclosures.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions

Are retailers legally required to provide vape collection points?
Yes. Under the WEEE Regulations, all UK retailers selling vapes must provide collection facilities for customers returning used devices. The containers must be visible and accessible. Failure to comply can result in enforcement action and penalties.
What is WEEE Category 15 and why does it matter?
WEEE Category 15, Vapes and E-Cigarettes, was introduced in August 2025 as a dedicated classification for vape waste. It requires separate collection, licensed treatment, and specific reporting. Generic WEEE bins or ad-hoc storage don't satisfy Category 15 obligations.
Which container is right for my site?
It depends on your volume and available space. Countertop tubs (5L and 10L) suit retail point-of-sale for customer take-back. Floor-standing tubes (20L) work well for higher-footfall locations. Undercounter boxes (16L) are ideal where space is tight. For high-volume sites like vape specialists or HWRCs, undercounter barrels (30L, 60L, and 120L) provide greater capacity. Our team will recommend the right option for your setup.
Do I have to buy the bins or can I lease them?
The bins remain GAP's property, you don't buy or lease them. We supply the containers as part of your collection service agreement. They stay on-site between collections and we maintain or replace them as needed.
How often will you collect from my vape bins?
Collections are scheduled based on your volumes and site requirements. We can provide regular weekly or monthly collections, or a responsive on-demand service where you contact us when containers are ready for emptying.
What happens to vapes once you collect them?
At our licensed facility, lithium-ion batteries are safely extracted and handled as hazardous waste. Remaining materials - plastics, metals, and electronics - are separated and processed at our licenced facility.  All processing meets WEEE Category 15 and hazardous waste regulatory standards.
Can you supply vape bins to multiple sites?
Yes. We provide vape bins and collection services across all UK sites under a single agreement. One supplier, consistent service, and unified documentation regardless of how many locations you operate.
What documentation will I receive?
You'll receive duty of care paperwork, WEEE Category 15 transfer notes, hazardous waste consignment notes for battery treatment, weight tickets, and ESG reports showing recycling rates, battery recovery volumes, and carbon impact. Everything you need for WEEE Category 15 reporting obligations, internal audits, and ESG disclosures.
Are you licensed to handle lithium batteries from vapes?
es. Our treatment facilities operate under Environmental Permits and hazardous waste licences for lithium-ion battery extraction and treatment. We're authorised to process vapes under WEEE Category 15 and handle battery waste under ADR-compliant transport and licensed treatment protocols.
Do you work with waste brokers?
Yes. Waste brokers are a core part of our client base. We supply Vape bins to your clients' sites and provide full downstream traceability and compliance documentation so you can fulfil your duty of care obligations.
