Peter Moody, Founder and Group CEO of GAP Group North East, has won The Alumni Award as part of The LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders programme for 2026.
Created by leading private equity investor LDC, in partnership with The Times, The LDC Top 50 celebrates the ambition and achievements of the leaders behind the UK’s growing medium-sized businesses. Now in its ninth year, the programme has celebrated hundreds of entrepreneurs and business leaders from across the UK, and each year continues to champion the progress of its alumni.
Headquartered in Gateshead, GAP Group is an AATF-authorised, direct-to-processor recycler of waste electrical and electronic equipment (WEEE), serving customers across the UK with its own haulage fleet. The group spans fridge and cooling recycling through its fridge processing plants in Gateshead and Perth, metals recovery, polymers, organic waste and Renew2U, which refurbishes appliances for resale.
Two years of growth since the 2024 Top 50
Since appearing in The LDC Top 50 in 2024, Peter has continued to grow the business. Over the last two years, GAP has opened a net zero fridge recycling plant near Perth, creating 50 jobs. It has also opened a new site near York, pioneered a UK-wide insulation programme and launched a joint venture to recover gold and copper from electronic waste.
"Being named in the LDC Top 50 in 2024 was a proud moment, so winning The Alumni Award two years on means a great deal, because it recognises what we've done since. We've made some bold calls, investing in new sites, new equipment, new jobs and new ways to recover value from electrical waste, and every one of them has been delivered by a brilliant team across GAP Group. This award is theirs as much as anyone’s. Thank you to LDC and The Times for the recognition. Believe me, we've got big and exciting plans for the next chapter." - Peter Moody, Founder and Group CEO, GAP Group North East
“Every year, we like to take the opportunity to recognise leaders who have continued to demonstrate the ambition that first earned them a place in The LDC Top 50, and Peter is a great example of that. He has continued to drive GAP Group North East forward, open new sites and create jobs. It’s fantastic to see what he has achieved since featuring in the programme. Peter is a worthy winner of this year’s Alumni Award.” - John Garner, Managing Partner, LDC
