Contamination Policy

V1.1 - Last edited April 2026

This is a reminder to all customers of the importance of ensuring that all materials delivered to our site are fully compliant with the agreed waste stream specifications.

Recent inspections across multiple incoming loads have identified an increase in contaminated and non-compliant material being presented across various waste streams, including (but not limited to) Small Mixed WEEE, Cooling, Vapes, Batteries, and other specialist categories.

Common Issues Identified

Materials frequently found within loads that are not permitted include:

  • Wood and general waste materials
  • Incorrect WEEE categories (e.g. mixed streams such as LDA, screens, cooling)
  • Hazardous or specialist items presented in the wrong stream (e.g. batteries, vapes, lamps)
  • Soft furnishings and non-electrical items
  • Any materials not explicitly agreed within the booked waste category

Please be reminded that materials must only be presented within the correct, pre-agreed waste stream, and anything outside of this may fall outside of our environmental permit conditions, meaning we are legally unable to accept or process it.

Why This Matters

Incorrectly segregated loads:

  • Disrupt processing and recycling operations
  • Require additional labour, time, and handling
  • Create health & safety risks
  • Risk non-compliance with environmental regulations and permit conditions
  • Increase disposal costs for non-conforming materials

Charges for Non-Compliance

All contaminated or non-compliant loads will be assessed on a load-by-load basis and charged accordingly, depending on the type and severity of contamination.

Minimum charges will be calculated and applied based on the following:

  • Contamination handling and sorting
  • Disposal of non-compliant materials
  • Additional processing time/labour
  • Missing parts including Cables and Compressors

Final charges will reflect the actual time, handling, and disposal costs incurred.

All charges will be issued on individual invoices specific to the affected load(s), rather than being included on your standard service invoice.

Required Action

All loads must be:

  • Correctly segregated prior to collection
  • Accurately described and booked under the correct waste stream
  • Free from contamination or unrelated material

If you are unsure about the correct classification of any material (e.g. whether an item falls under WEEE, cooling, batteries, or another category), please contact us prior to dispatch.

Ongoing Non-Compliance

Please treat this as a formal notice to all customers.

Continued submission of non-compliant loads may result in:

  • Increased charges
  • Rejection of loads upon arrival
  • Review or suspension of service
  • Repeated non-compliance may result in a review of your access to site

Rejected loads can have significant operational and cost implications for your business, so we strongly advise ensuring full compliance before dispatch.

We are happy to provide guidance and support to help you meet the required standards.

Thank you for your cooperation.
