FAQs

Frequently asked questions

What exactly changed on 6 April 2026 in Wales?
The Waste Separation Requirements (Wales) (Amendment) Regulations 2026 extended existing workplace recycling obligations to include all used small waste electrical and electronic equipment (sWEEE). Previously, only unsold sWEEE had to be separated. From 6 April, all sWEEE generated on non-domestic premises in Wales — whether used or unsold — must be presented separately for collection and recycling.

This is a Wales-specific requirement under Welsh Government legislation. It amends the Waste Separation Requirements (Wales) Regulations 2023.
Does my business need to comply - even if we are small?
The regulations apply to all non-domestic premises in Wales, regardless of size. If your premises generates sWEEE — which almost all businesses do — you have an obligation to present it separately for collection. There is no turnover or headcount threshold.
What documentation do I need to hold?
Under the UK-wide duty of care framework, you must hold waste transfer notes and consignment records for all your WEEE collections. These are issued by GAP Group with every collection and confirm who collected your sWEEE, how much, and where it went for processing. You should retain these and be able to produce them if asked.
What is an AATF and why does it matter?
An Approved Authorised Treatment Facility (AATF) is a facility approved under the UK WEEE Regulations to process electrical waste and issue evidence notes. Not all waste contractors are AATF authorised — and without using an AATF, your business cannot obtain the documentation that demonstrates compliant disposal. GAP Group is AATF authorised, meaning we can provide full evidence documentation with every collection.
We have multiple sites accross Wales - Can you cover all of them?
Yes. We provide Wales-wide coverage under a single arrangement. One contract, one documentation trail, consistent service across all your Welsh sites. For multi-site businesses, a free compliance audit is the best starting point — we will assess each site and set up a service that works across all of them.
I am a broker placing sWEEE businesses for Welsh customers. How do you work with brokers?
Brokers are a core part of our client base. We provide fully documented, AATF-authorised sWEEE collection that you can place on behalf of your clients across Wales. We offer both referral and white-label arrangements, and provide the downstream documentation and traceability your clients need. Get in touch to discuss how a GAP Group arrangement would work for your specific client base.
How quickly can you set us up?
Most businesses are fully set up — containers delivered, first collection scheduled, documentation process in place — within a week of first contact. For larger multi-site estates, we can have the first sites covered quickly and roll out the remainder in sequence. Contact us to discuss your specific timeline.
What containers do you provide?
We offer a range of on-site WEEE containers matched to your volume and site layout, including the Economy WEEEBox (for lower-volume sites), the Correx WEEEBox (flat-pack, pallet-sized, for higher volumes), and pallet collection for businesses that already palletise waste. Container delivery is included as part of your service arrangement.
